GERMAN EGYPTIAN RESEARCH LONG-TERM SCHOLARSHIP TO THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY (GERLS).
As an outcome of success achieved during the German-Egyptian Year of Science & Technology 2007, a cooperation agreement has been made between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt "MHESR” and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), Bonn to create a program offering up to 100 postgraduate scholarships for Egyptian doctoral candidates.
The target group of this program is researchers who hold their M.A / MSc, degree which should generally not be older than 3 years.

German - Egyptian Research Fund (GERF) - joint announcement
..by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt (MHESR) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for regulations governing the funding of joint innovative projects in the field of applied research through the ‘German - Egyptian Research Fund’ ("Deutsch-Ägyptischer Forschungsfonds”) as a follow-up to the ‘German-Egyptian Year of Science and Technology 2007’
1. Objectives and legal basis
On the occasion of the closing event of the ‘German-Egyptian Year of Science and Technology 2007’ in Berlin on 6 December, the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Hany Helal and the German Federal Minister of Education and Research Annette Schavan signed an agreement on the establishment of an Egyptian-German research fund for the support of joint application-oriented projects, to which each side will contribute €300,000 (equivalent to around 2.500.000 Egyptian Pound) per year. The grants are intended to give researchers – including young scientists - an opportunity to address new areas of scientific research and to promote bilateral research cooperation...

Within 10 and 11 o'clock on every workday you can make use of our GERF consulting service. It is conducted by Ms. Mahitab Fouad and Ms. Mona Ayoub on the DAAD-premises. It is recommended to arrange an personal appointment in advance: mahitab.fouad@daadcairo.org.
DaF Master’s Degree Program at the "Center of Excellence for Studies and Research in German and Arabic as Foreign Languages”
On the 7th of March 2008 a MoU has been concluded between Ain Shams University and the DAAD. This Memorandum of Understanding implements a biennial Master’s degree program "German as a Foreign Language in the German-Arab Context” at Ain Shams University. Within the framework of this double Master’s degree program students of Ain Shams University will study one semester at Leipzig University and vice versa.
The new Master’s degree program, which is likely to start in WS 2008/2009 at the recently founded "Center of Excellence for Studies and Research in German and Arabic as Foreign Languages”, is financed by DAAD, amongst others, through a program called "Institution Partnership in the field of German Language and Literature Studies”.
From now on, you can apply for the DaF Masters Degree Program.
